The Family Business Enterprise
Putting you in touch with experts and opportunities to help your business and your family prosper.
Most family members in business together say the hours are long and even family gatherings include business conversation. It’s like the workday never ends. And with so many other things that need daily attention, planning for retirement business succession is often postponed, even though it’s considered high priority.
Let us help. Through the Family Business Enterprise (FBE), we have the experts and the educational opportunities you need to get the most from your workday, your family time, and your future.
Family-owned businesses are an important segment in America. The FBE was created to:
- help business owners receive the advice and products to best suit their needs.
- provide educational opportunities for family business owners and members through sponsorship of Family Business Centers and The Entrepreneurship Institute
- recognize the achievements of family businesses through the annual National Family Business of the Year Award, sponsored by the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual).
The Family Business Center
Family Business Centers (FBCs) have been established throughout the country to provide a source of education and networking for family business members. Most are located at major colleges and universities, some at non-profit organizations, with sixty centers sponsored by MassMutual.
By becoming a member of a Family Business Center, you’ll benefit by:
- sharing challenges and successes with members of other family businesses
- meeting expert advisors in law, accounting, psychology, financial services, insurance, and education
- attending educational workshops on topics specific to helping family businesses such as improving business operations, planning for the future, and understanding and managing family dynamics
The Entrepreneurship Institute
With local chapters throughout the nation, The Entrepreneurship Institute (TEI) is an organization that provides educational forums and seminars for presidents and CEOs of small to mid-sized businesses. An advisory board composed of local business owners and professionals guide each TEI chapter. An annual Presidents’ Forum is also offered, which can provide valuable information as local business case studies are presented and discussed. Get more information about TEI by visiting www.tei.net.
The National Family Business of the Year Award Program
Each year, businesses in three separate size categories are selected to receive the National Family Business of the Year award. It’s a program that MassMutual has exclusively sponsored since 1993. Winners are selected in May of each year and do not have to be clients, but must meet the following criteria:
- have at least two generations actively working in the business
- have a succession plan in place for the next generation
- have been in business for at least 25 years
- be a U.S. or Puerto Rican for-profit company
- have a compelling story to tell
If you believe your business qualifies, let us know.
